What Conditions We See
- Pap smear/HPV testing
- Contraceptive Consultations (Pills, patches, rings, IUDs, Nexplanon) with pain management if applicable (cervical nerve blocks, inhaled Penthrox, and anxiolytic medications are options for IUDs)
- Menstrual Consultations (irregular menses, painful menses, heavy menses, PCOS, endometriosis, adenomyosis)
- Medical Abortion <10 weeks
- Endometrial biopsy (for investigating post-menopausal bleeding)
- Peri/Menopause Consultations (hormone and non-hormonal options)
- Severe menstrual mood disorders (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, a.k.a. PMDD)
About Dr. Keiko Chan
Dr. Keiko Chan completed medical school in Calgary, then moved to Ottawa for her residency in Family Medicine. Throughout residency, she focused on women’s health, working at the Shirley E Greenberg Center twice weekly. Upon graduation, Dr. Chan continued to explore women’s health for patients of all ages, ranging from contraception to menopause care. She is passionate about making procedures such as IUD insertions, endometrial biopsies, or even pap/HPV smears as comfortable as possible in the outpatient setting. At pre-procedure consultations, Dr. Chan will present patients with pain management options including cervical nerve blocks, inhaled Penthrox, and anxiolytic medications. Dr. Chan is also active in the Ottawa community, often giving public talks on evidence-based medicine in perimenopause and menopause. She is also pursuing her Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP) status with The Menopause Society and hopes to become certified in late October 2025.
About Dr. Sawini Fernando
Dr. Sawini Fernando graduated from Dalhousie University's medical school in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She then completed her residency in Family Medicine at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, followed by Enhanced Skills Training in Women's Health through Queen's University. Throughout her training, Dr. Fernando developed a particular interest in women’s health and is passionate about providing gynaecologic care that is empathetic and respectful of the unique experiences of cisgender, transgender and non-binary individuals. She offers various options for pain management during gynaecological procedures, including paracervical block, which are discussed during pre-procedure consultations. Dr. Fernando is excited to be working with Dr. Keiko Chan to serve this patient community.
