2. Responsible and Transparent Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
My Medical Centers 2
At My Medical Centers 2, we use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly to support our healthcare team, improve administrative efficiency, and enhance the patient experience. Our AI tools assist with selected clinical and administrative tasks, allowing our physicians and staff to focus more time and attention on patient care.
How We Use AI
Our clinic uses AI-assisted technology for the following purposes:
- Medical documentation and AI scribing: AI may assist with summarizing physician-patient conversations and preparing clinical notes for the medical record.
- Reception and patient communications: AI may assist with answering routine inquiries, directing requests, and providing general administrative information.
- Appointment booking and scheduling: AI may help patients request, arrange, or manage appointments, depending on the service being used.
- Administrative filing and workflow management: AI may assist with organizing, categorizing, processing, and routing administrative information and requests.
Human Oversight and Medical Responsibility
AI is a support tool and does not replace our physicians, healthcare professionals, or staff.
All AI-assisted clinical documentation is reviewed and approved by the responsible physician before it is finalized in the official medical record. Our physicians retain responsibility for their clinical assessments, decisions, and recommendations.
AI-assisted administrative tasks may also be reviewed or handled by our staff when appropriate.
Privacy, Confidentiality, and Security
We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of our patients' personal health information. AI tools are used subject to applicable privacy requirements, including Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA), and our clinic's privacy and security practices.
Access to personal health information is restricted to authorized individuals and approved purposes. We assess the privacy and security implications of the technologies we use and apply appropriate safeguards.
Patient Awareness and Consent
We believe patients have the right to understand how AI is used in their care and in their interactions with our clinic.
When an AI tool is used to capture or process a clinical conversation, patients will be informed and consent will be obtained as required before recording begins. Patients may ask questions about the process, how their information is handled, and what alternatives may be available.
Our Commitment
Our goal is to use AI thoughtfully, transparently, and responsibly to improve clinic operations while preserving patient privacy, professional accountability, and the human relationship at the heart of healthcare.
At My Medical Centers 2, technology supports care. Our healthcare professionals remain at the centre of it.
